PE Steel Coil Lateral-protection Plate are specialized end-face protection materials designed specifically for the storage and transportation of steel coils.
Their core function is to protect the two ends of the steel coil from damage caused by impacts, moisture penetration, and external compression during hoisting, transportation, and storage, ensuring the integrity of the coil’s end faces (especially the anti-rust layer).
They are a new type of environmentally friendly material that replaces traditional wooden/paper end panels.
PE Steel Coil Lateral-protection Plate: Material and Process Characteristics
- Base Material Selection: Made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin (density ≥ 0.945 g/cm³, uniform molecular weight distribution), processed by twin-screw extrusion molding. The tightly packed molecular chains give the material excellent comprehensive mechanical properties.
- Molding Method: The side panel uses high-quality plastic sheet as the base material and is die-cut in one step by a high-precision automatic die-cutting machine (no splicing required), ensuring that the finished product is free of burrs and rough edges, with a dimensional tolerance ≤ ±0.5 mm (far exceeding industry standards), resulting in a higher fit with the end face of the steel coil.
- Structural Advantages: The circular design tightly wraps around the end of the steel coil, combined with an internal cushioning structure (optional honeycomb/corrugated layer), which can disperse the concentrated stress on the end face of the lifting straps or forklift forks during hoisting, avoiding local crushing or deformation.

Performance parameters
| Indicator Item | Parameter Value | Practical Meaning |
| Bending strength | ≥12 MPa | The ability to resist bending deformation under external forces ensures that the side panels are not easily broken when stacked or under pressure. |
| Simply supported beam impact strength | ≥18 kJ/m² | Its ability to resist instantaneous impact loads (such as steel coil drops or collisions) protects the end face from impact damage. |
| Elongation at break | ≥200% | The material’s ductility under stress and deformation helps prevent brittle fracture and improves its resistance to dynamic impact. |
| Service temperature range | -30℃~60℃ | Adaptable to a wide temperature range of operating conditions, from extreme cold (such as outdoor storage and transportation in northern winters) to high temperatures (such as warehouses in southern summers). |
PE Steel Coil Lateral-protection Plate offer numerous advantages, including a smooth and flat surface (no burrs to scratch steel coils), pressure and impact resistance, cold and high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, acid and water resistance, and strong cushioning (moderate elastic modulus to absorb impact energy).
They are ideal end-face packaging materials for various metal coils, such as copper coils, stainless steel coils, hot-rolled/cold-rolled coils, and galvanized coils.
